The more energetic can climb the spiral stairs to the enclosed cupola on top of the house where they can enjoy a panoramic view of the skyline of downtown Wilmington, the Battleship North Carolina, or experience a magnificent sunset from one of the highest points in the historic district. All eight guest rooms are large corner rooms with state of the art individual climate control. Guests may choose from a selection of king, queen, or twin beds. Cable TV’s with VCR’s, as well as telephones with computer jacks are standard fare. Luxurious private baths feature marble floors, and oversized oval tubs. We have made every effort to accurately describe our guestrooms in the hopes that we never have a guest who is disappointed with their room, and The Verandas Bed and Breakfast Inn. The Verandas offers eight large guestrooms . All are corner rooms. Five have King Size Beds and three have Queen Size beds. Four rooms are on the second floor, and four rooms are on the third floor. On the second floor, the four corner guestrooms have direct access to two verandas. These rooms have a higher ceiling and are more “grand” than the rooms on the third floor. All rooms have the same first-class amenities: Color TV with cable (some VCR’s), telephones with computer modem jacks, and individual air conditioning/heat controls. Each room has a top-of-the-line Serta Hotel Mattress with hand-ironed 100% cotton sheets and Matelasse bedspreads. Bathrooms have garden-size soaking tubs with shower, marble floors, marble vanity tops, and custom wainscoting and vanities. Large mirrors, supplemental heat, exhaust, lighting, and built-in nightlights are in each bathroom. Makeup mirrors, hair dryers, and Caswell Massey as well as other custom amenities are provided. Rooms are furnished and decorated from the private collection of the owner, with original artwork, unique collectibles and decorating accents, antique light fixtures, comfortable lounge furniture, and small desks. Guest Room One was in the movie “A Touch of Fate,” featuring Teri Hatcher. Large corner room on the 2nd floor with an en suite bathroom. The bathroom is small, with a beautiful marble floor, marble vanity, garden-size soaking tub, wainscoting and stunning tropical floral wallpaper. The sculpted Oriental rug sets the stage for furnishings that include a queen size bed, and a very comfortable lounge chair in the corner that is perfect for reading or dozing off. Three of the pieces of art of reproductions of antique Persian prints, purchased in El Escorial, Portugal, and part of the innkeeper’s personal collection purchased on his own world travels. The walls are a soothing sea green. The pattern in the center of the valances is custom designed to match the dust ruffle. The windows overlook the back veranda and the garden. Located on the back of the house, this Guest Room Two has a 10-1/2 foot ceiling. Large corner room that is one of the more traditional looking rooms, with gorgeous mahogany furniture, a king bed, soothing avocado green walls, and one of the largest vintage tribal Indonesian textile wall hangings the innkeeper has ever seen. The artwork over the decorative fireplace is hand-blocked print from a contemporary artist in California. The desk is under a window, next to the decorative fireplace. The colors of the rooms are burgundy, blues and deep greens. The bathroom is a subtle, restful spa feeling, with muted wallpaper, marble finishes, and a garden size soaking tub. An appealing, fanciful, and peaceful room. Good for long term stays. Guest Room Five looks like chic European apartment. The settee and antique chair are upholstered in black and cream herringbone fabric, and the antique lamps provide soft lighting. The original artwork above the King bed was done by a local Wilmington artist, and other pieces include an original John Zimmerman, and an unusual print of a crow. On the wall by the settee, you will find one of a series of 20 paintings done for the Corcoran Art Museum by an artist who was an engraver at the U.S. Treasury. The beautiful gold and black check butterfly fabric of the drapes and valances will take your breath away. Guests are welcome to use the Empire dresser with its gorgeous tiger maple drawers. The en suite bathroom has stunning Oriental-themed crane wallpaper, marble floor and vanity, and a luxurious garden-size soaking tub. This room is on the top floor and is located on the back of the house. Because your room’s elevation is over 45 feet, you can look in the treetops and almost feel like you are in a luxury tree house! The room has three large windows and has a 9-foot ceiling. Pure romance. This third floor guest room is just steps from access to the cupola – the highest residential point in the city – with an intimate seating area and 360-degree view of historic Wilmington.
